They say politics evolve, but it is hard to see that happening in the Indian scenario what we are left is with a bunch of opportunists fighting for that elusive ‘kursi’. In the shear absence of leaders who can be called visionaries, I am always reminded of the statesmen like leadership of Nehru or more recently Atal Bihari Vajpayee. They truly understood the concept of india and laid down a broad framework or an ideology for the accomplishment of mission India. They were raring to go against the marked line; they stood above regional, castist and communal politics and were revered by the Indian masses. But the Indian polity has systematically degenerated into a chaos fuelled by power clinching obsessions of our leaders, populist measures have taken precedence over long term policy measures, there is no long term vision, idea or concept that can light the future path for the nation, be it an economic policy fine tuned for mass appeasement, an absolutely haywire foreign policy that is more reactive than proactive and even more opportunistic than strategic. ‘INDIA STORY’ without a leadership that can gauge the big picture and implement a pragmatic agenda for progress is impossible to sustain- and this seems to be the real possibility.
